Street Fighter X Mega Man Out Now!

Not too long ago, Capcom stunned (most of) its gaming audience when it announced a Street Fighter-Mega Man crossover in classic 8-bit stylings.  In a world where cease-and-desists are all the rage whenever someone begins a fan-made anything, it is amazing to see such a crossover reach the light of day -- even moreso, to have its release be under the official "Capcom" banner.  So, we're thankful that Street Fighter X Mega Man is a real thing.

In the Mega Man games of old, the player was tasked with choosing one of eight levels: each time, navigating the Blue Bomber through an thematically-appropriate level where the Robot Master awaited at the end.  Mega Man was awarded a new weapon with each victory, learned from the defeated Robot Master.

Street Fighter X Mega Man is exactly the same.  Mega Man will have to navigate through treacherous stages and battle Street Fighter characters old and new, learning their abilities on the way.  The order in which you take them, as always, is up to you (although we're told that another set of eight will unlock after completing the first.)

This game has a serious amount of nostalgic joy behind it, although it should be warned that classic Mega Man gameplay also lends itself to classis Mega Man difficulty - you've been warned.  Still, the added glee of seeing our favorite blue sprite do Chun-Li's lightning kicks is well worth the price of the FREE admission.

Download Street Fighter X Mega Man now here!  (Be patient; their site is getting pummelled by gamers like you!)

Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Sucks...

...without the Marvel vs. Capcom 2 music.

Games Radar was feeling nostalgic for the days of yore, when the phrase "Gonna Take You For a Ride" (bah-na-na-nah na-nah nah) infected and festered in the synapses of your brain to the point where a game of Russian Roulette seemed like a good idea.  Naturally, their next response was to import the MvC2 soundtrack and sound effects into the action of the newest installment in the Vs. series.

While they call the video "Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Ruined by Marvel vs. Capcom 2," I'm sure they meant "more awesomed by."  That's the only thing that makes sense.

Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds Coming in February 2011!

Make sure you have something special planned for Valentine's Day, because, as of midnight that evening, you won't be seeing your significant other for a while.

As leaked yesterday by a Gamestop listing, Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds will be hitting store shelves on February 15, 2011!

To celebrate the achievement by letting you throw more money at them, Capcom is offering a Special Edition for both console flavors of the highly-anticipated game (PS3 version pictured above.)  The Special Edition will retail for $69.99 and will include an art book, an exclusive comic, special casing, a voucher for DLC characters Shuma Gorath and Jill Valentine, a free month subscription for Marvel digital comics, and, of course, the game itself.

Also of note, Capcom announced that Zero and She-Hulk will be joining the fray, while Joystiq got their hands on yet another rumored full roster.  And, yes, Squirrel Girl is there.  Hit the jump for the full listing.

NYCC 2010: Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Hands-On!

After getting our hands on Marvel vs. Capcom 3 at NYCC last weekend, I think I can safely say that all of us here at Open the Fridge will be picking up the game when it comes out next spring.

The biggest thing that struck me is how tight the game is -- and I mean that in many respects.

Shinkuu Hadouken!

The action is solid, responsive, and familiar, as the game maintains that fast-paced, over-the top action that you've come to expect from the MvC series.  The "Evolved VS. Fighting System," as the combat is called, is crisp and precise, which juxtaposes nicely against the graphical onslaught to which you're otherwise subjecting your eyeballs.  The 3-on-3 tag fighter is, fundamentally, the same game you know:  choose three fighters, choose three assist types, and let the fists fly!

Hit the jump for more of our impressions...

NYCC 2010: So A Bionic Commando, A Pantsless Knight, A Master of Magnetism, and a Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing Walk Into a Game...

Get over here!

We keepers of the Fridge have returned to our respective headquarters, and we have plenty of New York Comic Con news to share!

First up, Capcom announced another four new characters that will be playable in the upcoming Marvel vs. Capcom 3:  Nathan Spencer (Bionic Commando), Sir Arthur (Ghosts 'n' Goblins), Magneto, and - brace yourself - M.O.D.O.K.

The big question: how many hits until the armor comes off?

Yes, you will be able to play as the self-conscious, giant-headed Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing, M.O.D.O.K.  I cannot say I was expecting that one at all, but I can say that it excites me when a game of this calibur can surprise even a jaded gamer like me.

While this officially nixes that rumored full roster, a lot of the names have indeed come up, like Spencer, Arthur, and Magneto, so I'm not discounting it entirely yet.

Sean, Tek, and I had a chance to play the long-awaited game; stay tuned for our hands-on impressions!  For now, though, hit the jump for gameplay videos of Arthur and Spencer!

Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds is slated for release in Spring 2011 on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Tron Bonne, X-23, Spider-Man, and Albert Wesker Announced

Over the course of the Tokyo Game Show, Capcom announced that four new fighters wil be joining the clash to determine The Fate of Two Worlds.

Marvel adds X-23, the female clone of Wolverine, and Spider-Man, the friendly neighborhood superhero, to their ranks, while Capcom adds the pirate inventor, Tron Bonne, and the Resident Evil villian, Albert Wesker, to their numbers.

Interestingly, the rumor floating around with the potential list of characters continues to fill out.  We'll keep our ears to the ground while Capcom trickles out more information as the 2011 release date draws closer...

Here Comes a New Challenger! Dormammu and Viewtiful Joe Revealed in Marvel vs. Capcom 3

"The Dread One" Dormammu and Viewtiful Joe are the latest entrants to join the fanatical fray that is Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

The biggest problem at this time will be balance (how exactly can you make a demon who can do just about anything fair?) but if anyone can handle it, it's Capcom -- they have been doing this for a little while, after all.

Capcom has previously confirmed there will be at least 30 playable characters in the highly anticipated game.  With these two latest additions, the currently revealed playable character list now stands at 18:

MarvelCapcom
Captain America Amaterasu
Deadpool Chris Redfield
Dr. Doom Chun-Li
Dormammu Dante
Hulk Felicia
Iron Man Morrigan
Super Skrull Ryu
Thor Trish
Wolverine Viewtiful Joe

Now that we have Dormammu in the mix, we just have to add Dr. Strange!   Right?   Please?

Four More MvC3 Characters Emerge

In a cover story in their newest issue, Game Informer Magazine reveals four more playable characters from the long overdue Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds.

On the Marvel side, Deadpool and Captain America join the previously revealed Wolverine, Hulk, and Iron Man.  For Capcom, Dante and Felicia join Morrigan, Chris Redfield, and Ryu.  While this isn't exactly surprising news (the above image shows their silhouettes fairly clearly...), it is always nice to see official confirmation of such things.

The game's developers have stated that they expect to have around 30 playable characters at release, limited only by licensing and development time.  Of course, Marvel vs. Capcom 2 had 56 playable characters; shouldn't the follow-up have more?  C'mon, Capcom.

Wanna Take You For A Ride...Again!

Sharpen your claws and tighten your headband, because gaming's favorite crossover fighter is back for round three.  Marvel.com has posted a teaser trailer for the much-anticipated Marvel vs. Capcom 3, and it looks like it will not disappoint.  The roster looks to include some familiar favorites from the past, but the trailer shows one new "resident" of the Capcom universe that has joined the fray.

"Final Fight: Double Impact" Muscles Its Way Out in April

Final Fight: Double Impact, the most recent Capcom retro release to hit the consoles, has been officially granted passage by the powers that be for April 14th on the Xbox Live Arcade (with a one day wait for those of the PlayStation Network variety.)

Available for 800 Microsoft Funbucks or $9.99 Sony RealMoney, Final Fight: Double Impact packages two classic arcade-style beat 'em ups for your nostalgia:  Final Fight and Magic Sword.

Final Fight, the acclaimed 1989 release, follows the story of pro-wrestler-turned-Mayor Mike Haggar fighting through the gang that infects his city to rescue his daughter, Jessica.  Aided by Jessica's boyfriend, Cody, and sparring partner, Guy (both of whom are, incidentally, playable characters in the upcoming Super Street Fighter IV), the trio brawl through Metro City putting a stop to the Mad Gear Gang once and for all.

Magic Sword, originally released in 1990, is the epic tale of the Brave One, ascending the 50 floors of Dragon Keep to put a end of the dark lord Drokmar, wielder of the powerful "Black Orb."  The Brave one enlists the aid of allies rescued from various parts of the tower, and the band of heroes together face Drokmar, but, come endgame, the dark lord may have an apprentice.

The Final Fight: Double Impact dual-release will feature HD graphics and a remixed soundtrack, with the ability to switch back to the classic arcade style for the "purest pixel junkies."  Online capabilities also allow drop-in coop, allowing players to join games in-progress -- just like in those days of old.

I'm placing my quarter on the start button in patient wait.  Count me in.
