Ryan Reynolds isn’t technically Deadpool, but, let’s face it, he’s basically Deadpool. And the Merc with a Mouth’s eponymous movie is expected to bring in enough revenue to shatter all kinds of records before the first weekend is through.
Opening night box office projections are conservatively predicting about $60+ million dollars — which isn’t half bad considering that the movie’s entire budget is only $58 million.
Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who wrote Deadpool, are writing the script for a follow-up, which has already been greenlighted, insiders tell The Hollywood Reporter.
The fact that a sequel is in the works should not be a surprise at this point. Deadpool is tracking to open to at least $65 million over the upcoming four-day holiday weekend, with some estimates pointing north of $70 million.
Deadpool opens this Friday, February 12, 2016. You should definitely not take your kids.
