Originally scheduled to be unveiled with Star Wars: The Force Awakens this weekend (can’t wait!), Paramount Pictures has released the first trailer for Star Trek Beyond in response to an early leak yesterday morning.
Against the background of “Sabotage,” this trailer features plenty of action and touch of humor (which I’ll call the Marvel method for the time being) and gives us a good look at Idris Elba’s villain for the first time.
As is pretty much par for the course these days, online leaks have forced the studio’s hands to do something a little earlier than planned. As a consumer, that’s great! I want to see it! But I can’t help but feel a little bad for those who wanted more of a spectacle of it – especially since it was going to be revealed with Star Wars (which is, as you may know, kind of a big deal.)
Directed by Justin Lin and written by Simon Pegg and Doug Jung, Star Trek Beyond releases nationwide on July 22, 2016.
