Dust off the hashtag. The students of Greendale may be one step closer to fulfilling their promise of #SixSeasonsAndAMovie.
Josef Adalian of Vulture.com has reported that Sony Pictures Television has been conversing with Hulu Plus about a potential future for Community. If all goes well, a 13-episode 6th season could see the light of day, but at the moment, nothing has been agreed upon by either party. Currently, Hulu is the streaming home of Community in-season reruns. Most fans had probably come to terms with the fact that Community ran its course and would not be coming back, but then again, there are the idealistic few who held out hope that a streaming service like Netflix might extend a helping hand. Hope springs eternal, as they say.
Would it be a good idea to bring the series back? Probably. The fifth season, which saw the return of showrunner Dan Harmon, definitely brought Community out of the ditch that was season 4 (or the Gas Leak Year, if you prefer). Even though this past season saw some of the series’ most drastic casting changes with the departure of Chevy Chase and Donald Glover and the addition of Jonathan Banks, the show retained the charm that earned its popularity among fans.
At this point, there are only rumblings about Community’s future, but I don’t think it’s too early to start hashtagging again. Let’s save Greendale one more time.
