A brand new group is ready to travel to that galaxy far, far away.
Actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow have all been tapped to join veterans Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Peter Mayhew, Anthony Daniels, and Kenny Baker in Star Wars: Episode VII.
Director J.J. Abrams stated, “We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud.”
A cast of newcomers and relative unknowns worked well for the success of the origianl Star Wars in 1977, so we shall see if Abrams can capture that same kind of lightning. Aside from the returning stars, little is known about who these actors will be portraying. Adam Driver, one of the earliest semi-confirmed cast memebers, has been rumored to be the film’s primary villain, and the addition of well-known motion capture artist Andy Serkis begs the question of whether or not he will be playing a digitally created alien. The casting of Max von Sydow also echoes the original choice to include Sir Alec Guiness in the original film’s production, bringing in an older, firmly established actor as the wise mentor. Whether that will be von Sydow’s role has yet to be seen.
Star Wars: Episode VII continues to be one of the most closely watched film projects of the year and is scheduled for release on December 18th, 2015.
