Kojima: 'Metal Gear Solid 5' In the Works

Have you missed your favorite Tactical Espionage Action hero? Well, he might be coming back.

Hideo Kojima, creator of the Metal Gear Solid game series, has hinted at the development of Metal Gear Solid 5, a new installment in the popular video game series, running on the previously revealed FOX Engine. Whether the project will be a sequel or prequel has not been determined, but in an interview with French gaming magazine IG, Kojima stated, “We have not yet finished with Solid Snake, despite the fact that I wanted to let him die at the end of [Metal Gear Solid 4] Guns of the Patriots.” I would hope that a prequel would be the way to go, since we last saw Solid/Old Snake in a pretty decrepit state.

Kojima also briefly hinted at a game mechanic that might appear in the next installment. “There will be much question of infiltration, espionage, and convincing people to give you ‘a favor’ like in the last Metal Gear Solid.” The [poorly] translated quote most likely refers to the loyalty aspect in MGS: Peace Walker (originally intended to be the 5th MGS game), but with games like Mass Effect 2 also making loyalty a key factor, we will probably see greater interaction with characters in order to access certain abilities and/or privileges. Kojima also made reference to another game series as a possible influence on the future of MGS, stating that he “liked the idea of social interactions in Deus Ex: Human Revolution.”

With Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance (originally announced in 2009) still somewhere in game development limbo, it might be a long time before we get any further details about a new adventure with Snake (Solid or Naked).
