It’s hard to be an indie filmmaker these days. Low budgets mean trying to create art with practically nothing. Limited distribution means relying merely on friends, Facebook, Twitter, and website hits to drum up buzz.
So they need our help! And we can start one IndieGoGo film at a time.
Influenced by film legends Werner Herzog and Terrence Malik among others, The Earth Rejects Him is the tale of a young boy that discovers a corpse in the woods, and the unexpected consequences he faces when he tries to bury it.
A Fairfield University grad and writer/director of the self-proclaimed “haunting and surreal” flick, Skolnick promises that The Earth Rejects Him will be a “unique and terrifying experience … about modern man’s relationship with the unknowable powers of nature.”
But he needs your help.
Asking not for donations but “investments” of any value, Skolnick needs assistance to get the actors, crew, incidentals, and additional equipment necessary in order to make it as amazing as he knows it can be. Like Kickstarter, the donations investments can be of any value, but meeting certain tiers will net you some swag, like the finished DVD, signed posters, or even a producer credit. The contribution period runs for the next two weeks, and can be done here.
In a world too full of sequels and prequels and full of huge studios too afraid to do something new, it’s necessary to take matters into our own hands to call for something new. Help out the independent filmmakers! (And if it should strike you, start with this one!)
Full disclosure: Jared Skolnick is a friend of many of ours here in the Fridge, as Fairfield University is from where most of us here hail. That being said, we certainly have no lack of faith in his abilities, and encourage you to contribute!
