French newspaper, Le Figaro has reported that Oscar-winner Marion Cotillard (Le Vie en Rose, Inception) has joined the cast of The Dark Knight Rises. Official confirmation from Christopher Nolan or Warner Brothers has yet to come, but according to the Le Figaro article (and the translation provided by Batman-News.com), Cottilard “will join the filming this summer in Los Angeles.” She will join Inception co-stars Tom Hardy and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, as well as returning favorites, Christian Bale, Gary Oldman, and Michael Caine.
With Anne Hathaway already cast as Selina Kyle, speculation has arisen that the second female role might be that of Talia al Ghul, daughter of Ra’s al Ghul, the villain portrayed by Liam Neeson in 2005’s Batman Begins. With Bane (Hardy) already confirmed as a villain, Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s role currently under wraps, and Selina Kyle’s Catwoman status still unconfirmed, more questions seem to arise with each new casting call. Bane, Catwoman, and Talia all carry villain cards in the Batman universe, but Christopher Nolan might still surprise us with a curveball or two.
The Dark Knight Rises is due in theaters on July 20th, 2012.
