As we previously reported, the BBC partnered with US-based Starz Entertainment to revive the Torchwood Institute and its omnisexual beast, Captain Jack Harkness. At the TCA press tour today, we have a few more details of the upcoming fourth season of Torchwood from Executive Producer Russell T. Davies himself (via IGN.)
It’s looking like everyone’s going to get a little Capt. Jack in them next season (in the “not dying” part, not in the “has sex with everyone” part.) The overview plotline:
Miracle Day follows what happens when one day, people simply stop dying on Earth – and then continue to not die, day after day. The rapture this is greeted with by some is tempered by others quickly realizing that “Earth can’t sustain it” when people stop dying, and overpopulation quickly becomes a very dangerous problem.
Davies said he was excited by the idea of exploring this concept, “and simply drop it into all our lives. What are we going to do now?” He said that in Miracle Day, we will see, “Some of those answers are beautiful and brave and some are terrifying.”
On the last episode of Torchwood, Capt. Jack’s team whittled down to a measly two people – Gwen Cooper (Eve Myles) and Capt. Jack (John Barrowman) himself. And even then, Jack fled after sacrificing his own grandson to save the world.
There are no details on how they’re bringing the team back together, but Davies assured us that Jack and Gwen will still be headlining the show with at least one newcomer in CIA agent Rex Matheseon (Mekhi Pfiefer.)
No official dates have been announced, but we’ll keep an ear to the ground. Can’t wait to see that beautiful blue military coat again!
