John Krasinski might be going from the office to the WWII battlefield. Krasinski is reportedly the favorite for the lead in Marvel Studios’ The First Avenger: Captain America. After several readings and screen tests, he has been inching closer and closer to landing the part ever since his name popped up in February.
Known for his role as Jim Halpert on NBC’s “The Office,” Krasinksi has been getting some sideways glances from fans (especially this fan). Needless to say, he wasn’t exactly the first choice to wield the red, white, and blue shield. But with casting choices like Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark and Edward Norton as Bruce Banner under their belt, it’s possible that Marvel knows something we don’t.
Krasinski’s deadpan humor on “The Office” isn’t quite what we’re looking for in the man who personifies the all-American super soldier, but if it becomes a reality for the 30-year-old actor, here’s hoping Dr. Reinstein’s serum turns him into the hero we all want to see kicking some Nazi ass next Summer.
The First Avenger: Captain America will be the fifth film from Marvel Studios. It is directed by Joe Johnston (The Rocketeer) and is due in theaters on July 22, 2011.
