“Man of Steel” Teaser Trailers Unveiled!

It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything about Zack Snyder’s upcoming Superman adaptation Man of Steel (the last thing we’ve seen was Henry Cavill in the iconic suit last year), but after their panel at SDCC this year, it looks like they’re gearing up for a big marketing push – starting with these teaser trailers.

In these teasers, Clark Kent’s fathers (both biological and adoptive) provide the voiceovers, both waxing poetic about Clark’s destiny, ultimately concluding with a great shot of Superman breaking the sound barrier.  Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner) speaks of “being the man you want to be” with a world-weary tone in his voice, while Jor-El (Russell Crowe) appropriately portends being “an ideal [for people] to strive for.”

From these trailers, we can see that there is a notably grittier tone in Man of Steel than has historically befitted Superman movies.  While this isn’t surprising – they no doubt want to capture the same success that Christopher Nolan’s Batman films have – it is a little disappointing, because Superman exists on the opposite side of the coin than Batman.  They both fight for the greater good, but while Batman thrives in the dark, Superman literally gains strength from the light.  Regardless, here’s hoping that they do justice the Kryptonian hero.

Man of Steel is slated for release Summer 2013.
