‘Diablo III’ Opens the Burning Hells on May 15

It’s been over a decade since the adventures of Diablo II and five years since it was first announced, but Blizzard Entertainment has finally given Diablo III a release date: May 15, 2012.

After slipping from its original 2011 window and, later, an “early 2012” launch window, it’s good to finally have a concrete date for the one of the most long awaited sequels in the past decade (your Gordon Freemans and Duke Nukems notwithstanding.)

Global digital pre-sales begin today at Battle.net (reserve your copy here), where you’ll be able to download your digital copy as soon as the game is released on the 15th.  Special edition and retail version will also be available with pre-order availability coming soon.

From the press release:

In Diablo III, players take on the role of one of five heroic characters – barbarian, witch doctor, wizard, monk, or demon hunter – and engage in pulse-pounding combat with endless legions of evil. As they undertake an epic quest to rid Sanctuary from the corrupting forces of the Burning Hells, players will explore diverse and perilous settings, grow in experience and ability, acquire artifacts of incredible power, and meet key characters who’ll join them in battle or aid them in other ways.

Diablo III is set for release on PC and Mac, so all gamers will be able to get their “click-click-click” on.
