“The Last Airbender: The Legend of Korra” Trailer Teases Modern Day Bending

Nickelodeon began airing a promo for their upcoming follow-up to the critically acclaimed Avatar: The Last Airbender, and it’s got many of us antsing for a little more bending in our lives.

The Last Airbender: The Legend of Korra follows the new Avatar Korra, as she learns to manipulate all four elements in order to protect the world.  But that’s where the similarities to the first series ends, it seems.  Korra is older, sassier, and more impulsive than the Avatar Aang we watched, and this world she inhabits is different than the one he saved so long ago.

70 years have passed since Aang’s exploits, and society has progressed in all kinds of ways.  Cars, cameras, press conferences — they’re all modern constructs that will paint Korra in a different light, and I suspect half of the draw will be marrying these ancient concepts of element bending in a more modern society.

Nickelodeon hasn’t announced a date for the launch of the new series, but it is expected to hit the airwaves later this year.

Haven’t watched the first series?  Catch up with it (and support the Fridge!) by picking up a copy of the first series on DVD (Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3.)
