NYCC 2011: Hasbro’s 2012 Preview, Part 2

Our coverage of Hasbro’s preview of their upcoming lineup continues with their biggest brand yet: Star Wars!

New in 2012, Hasbro is launching a new game and collectible series, Star Wars: Fighter Pods!  Miniature characters are placed in small, connectible plastic spheres, and the fun begins!  In addition to characters, the little ‘uns can get their hands on vehicles, like the AT-AT and the Aluminum Millennium Falcon, in which to place the sphere to increase their fun quotient by many multiples.  Priced between $2.99 to $19.99, the Fighter Pods will launch with 130 figures over the course of 2012.

They’re not done yet!  Hasbro also announced the Star Wars: Vintage Collection, with Wave 1 of these 3.75″ figures hitting store shelves at the end of January.  The biggest claim to fame?  Aside from some new and classic characters, this series incorporates designs only just revealed in the never-before-seen deleted scenes on the recently-released Star Wars: The Complete Saga on Blu-Ray!  The Luke, Leia, and Lando figures, for example, seen in the photos below come from a scene of the original trilogy only now released to the public with the Blu-Ray collection.

Also, eagle-eyed readers will notice that Darth Maul’s infamous double-bladed lightsaber is coming back! Along with the Ultimate FX lightsabers and electronic helmets shown in the lower-right thumbnail, the 5-foot-long double-bladed saber will be available for all of your monies at the end of January 2012.  The Ultimate FX lightsabers will be available in Jedi Anakin, Darth Vader, and Luke flavors, while the electronic helmets let you unleash your inner Sith Lord in the form of Darth Maul, Darth Vader, and Clone Wars-type Stormtrooper varieties.

That’s all from our Hasbro coverage; hope that we properly whet your appetites for the toys and collectibles that will claim your hard earned money!  Thanks to Hasbro for the invite to their fancy shindig, and we hope to do it again soon!
