NYCC 2010: ‘X-Men The Arcade Game’ Coming to XBLA, PSN

At NYCC’s Marvel Games panel this past weekend, Marvel announced that Konami’s brilliant side-scrolling beat ’em up X-Men: The Arcade Game will be remade, arriving on the Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network.

The title will feature multiple difficulties and drop-in/drop-out, online co-op gameplay (could we add more adjectives there?) to let gamers all over the world build their nostalgia factors together.  The arcade revival has support for six simultaneous players, giving people control of Cyclops, Wolverine, Storm, Nightcrawler, Colossus, and Dazzler against Magneto and (for some reason) his Sentinels.  No release date was announced, but representatives mentioned that Konami would be providing the classic 18-year-old title with downloadable content.

Throughout the 90s, I have spent a significant amount of money to play this simplistic, albeit solid side-scroller, so I can hardly find the words to describe how excited I am about this.  Well, except maybe…
