Amazon.com Completely Sold Out of Graphic Novels

Earlier today I decided I would finaly get volume 9 of B.P.R.D. that I have been sitting on for a few months. I clicked on over to Amazon.com, went to my saved items and saw that it was no longer in stock. Upon further inspection I noticed that all the graphic novels I had saved in my cart were no longer available through Amazon.com. Figuring there must be some sort of glitch, I out a call into Amazon.com customer service to see if this was just a temporary web issue. The woman I spoke to kept saying that they were sold out of the book. I can understand being sold out of one book but I tried to explain to her that every graphic novel I looked at wasn’t available. She assured me that they were all sold out and I decided to leave it at that. Ten minutes later I received this e-mail:

Hello,

Due to a pricing error the weekend of March 6, we sold a number of graphic novels much faster than expected. In fact, we oversold our inventory before we could reconcile our availability information on the site with our actual inventory. As a result, we compounded the problem by indicating we had books in stock when we did not.

I’m sorry for the inconvenience! To help compensate for any frustration

For the moment, we don’t have any of the books in stock. We have truly sold out. We are working to get the titles back in stock so you’ll be able to purchase them soon at the regular price.

I’m sorry I don’t have better news. We hope to see you again soon.

Apparently there was an Amazon.com firesale on graphic novels, and I missed it. I did some poking and found an article on The Consumerist about the whole thing. According to The Consumerist the discounts were outrageous, $100 Omnibuses were selling for $15. Rich Johnston at Bleeding Cool placed a $500 order for lord knows how many books. I’m still steamed that I hadn’t decided a few days earlier to check my Amazon cart. Ah well, C’est la Vie.
